Hearing Dogs for Deaf People train dogs to alert their deaf owners to sounds such as the alarm clock, doorbell, telephone and smoke alarm.
70% of dogs entering the scheme are selected from rescue centres or similar. They are trained to alert by touch, using a paw to gain attention and lead their owner back to the sound source. For sounds such as the smoke and fire alarm the dogs will lie down to indicate danger.
The practical value is obvious, but the therapeutic value should not be underestimated. In addition to security, hearing dogs bring their recipients increased confidence and independence as well as companionship.

Action
for Blind People is a dynamic national charity which provides direct
support to over 20,000 blind and partially sighted people across the UK
each year, as well as information to many thousands more. Our vision for
the future is simple – we believe
in a world where sight loss is not a barrier – where people who are blind or partially
sighted have the same quality of life as sighted people. With 100 people
in the UK losing their sight each day there is a real and growing need
for our services in work, housing, leisure and support. Please call
Natalie on 020 7635 4888 or email
events@afbp.org if you would like to support
our vital work by taking part in a Global Adventure.

There are some 8.7 million deaf and hard of
hearing people in the UK. One in every thousand people is born
profoundly deaf and one in three of the over 60’s experiences some
hearing loss. It is important to remember that each person with a
hearing loss is an individual and will approach the loss of all or part
of their hearing in a different way. deafPLUS provides a range of
services to address these diverse needs.
We are a national charity whose aim is to advance
the equality and integration of deaf and hearing people through our
Mobile Advisory Service (taking information and equipment out on the
road), individual advice and advocacy, information and training. At
least 50% of our own staff, trustees and volunteers are themselves deaf
and we support those with all levels of hearing loss along with their
families, friends and colleagues.

“To enable people with a visual
impairment to gain independence and minimise the effects of reduced
vision.”
We were founded in 1867 to “support and
protect the interests of Visually Impaired people across Lancashire”
Over more than 130 years the variety of
services provided has developed and we now support over 6000 people.
To maintain our present level of support,
we need to raise over £500,000 each year, but as people are living
longer, so more and more are experiencing some form of reduced vision.
We expect that the number of people needing our help will increase by
about 10% each year.
Through your adventures, would you please
help us to help others?

Imagine
if you were blind – how much more of a challenge would that be?
British Blind Sport raises funds to help blind and partially sighted
people face up to the everyday challenges of their lives through the
medium of sport. After all, if you can take part and succeed
in sports such as athletics, archery, bowls, cricket, football,
golf, shooting, swimming & ten-pin bowling . . . then nothing is
impossible with the right kind of expertise and the will to succeed.
Can
you help us to help them? Why not challenge yourself and raise
funds to help us encourage even more visually impaired children and
adults to face their own challenges . . . and succeed, whatever
their age or ability.
