Cerebral Palsy

The Rainbow CentreThe Rainbow Centre is a place of warmth and hope for children, adults and families alike.

The Centre (established 1990) is a registered charity based in Fareham, Hampshire. We provide Conductive Education services for babies and young children with cerebral palsy and other conditions that result in impairment of the central nervous system, causing mobility disorders.

Conductive Education is a system of learning developed in Hungary by Professor Petö. It not only aims to improve mobility skills and function but also to affect development as a whole, including social, emotional and intellectual aspects.

We help:

bullet Disabled babies and young children to learn to do the things that develop naturally in other children – such as sitting up, standing, walking, talking – we build on what the children can do rather than what they can’t. We change children’s lives by helping them towards a more independent, confident and fulfilled life.
bullet Adults with acquired motor impairment, e.g. multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or people recovering from strokes. It is a holistic approach, teaching individual strategies for coping.

The Rainbow Centre operates on a ‘not for profit’ basis. The catchment area is over 5 million people geographically spread.

Registered Charity No: 1096603

BobathCerebral palsy is a permanent disorder of posture and movement resulting from brain damage occurring in pregnancy around the time of birth. Affecting approximately one child in every 400, cerebral palsy affects both the messages received by and sent from the brain, as well as the way in which the brain interprets these messages. Although the effects vary widely, impaired movement is the most common and obvious result. With a limited repertoire of movement, children with cerebral palsy can find even simple activities require a lot of effort.

Although there are no miracle cures for cerebral palsy, Bobath Therapy can, and does, improve posture and balance, offering the opportunity for each child to reach their full potential and to lead a more fulfilling life.

Bobath Scotland employs professional therapists skilled in the Bobath Concept. As a Tertiary Centre, children are referred through NHS paediatric consultants. Our main fundraising comes from the Public underwritten with nominal funds from the NHS.

Bobath Scotland has operated since 1995 during which time over 500 children have benefited from this important Service.
